With a name like Jamison...
Our family name, as well as those of the Kelly's and McDaniel's, and given names Guy, Patrick, Shannon, Jill and Rose, floated around the house, so St. Paddy's Day was always a special day in our childhood homes. Looking back, most of our meals were Irish foods, and we just didn't know of much else, even as we lived in New Mexico! Dad was Allen Guy Jamison, and he was a little on the shorter side - a good fit for the tight confines of the Bomber. Stationed in England through WWII, he was branded the little Irishman by his flying buddies. It was meant as a friendly insult, and he wore it as a badge of honor. Eventually that became Patrick, which he held the rest of his life.
Recently, Me, Mike and our daughter, Cassandra Pat Kelly (Yes, we combined as many good Irish names as we could) made the trek to Ireland to pay homage to our family roots. After landing in Dublin, we made a toast to ole Pat and what he endured over on that rock long ago, with whiskey on a rocks at the Jameson Whiskey Foundation Distillery (our name Jamison took an American spelling) as well as the original Guinness brewery, one of his favorites. From there we traveled to the white cliffs of Galway, then down the coast and across to Killarney, over to Blarney Castle. Throughout our visit I felt a great sense of…coming home.
With this enthusiasm we offer St Patrick's Day weekend at Porters. Come join our house slow roasted corned beef with fresh braised cabbage, carrots and onions, a Guinness beer or an Irish coffee on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, Brunch at The Irish Feast, a Buffett of Corned Beef and Cabbage, Irish Cottage Pie, Colcannon, Guinness Beef Stew and more! Check out our website or give us a call for more details.
And as an Irish goodbye, I am sharing one of my favorite recipes for Colcannon…because you can never have too many potato recipes.
Thank you for being a customer of Porters Restaurant, and hope to see you this weekend!
